The ten commandments were given to the twelve tribes of Israel by Moses. The twelve tribes were formed from the twelve sons of Jacob about 400 years before the commandments were given to them.
The Bible says Moses lived to be 120 years old. It should be noted that back in that era, people calculated time differently and they did not have a 24 hour day or a year with twelve months. Thus, it is not certain what "120 years" meant, but based on descriptions of Moses in the Hebrew Bible, he seems to have in fact lived a long and full life and died of old age.
