The traditional model was that they moved in "epicycles", which is basically a point on a circle, which both rotates, and revolves around another circle.Since the planets actually move around the Sun in ellipses, this model is not entirely accurate.

What was the purpose of the epicycle in the Ptolemaic model?

Epicycles helped account for the apparent motion of the other planets in the geocentric model.

2 models of the solar system?

Theres the Geocentric model, with earth at the centre and the planets and sun revolving around us. Then there is the Heliocentric model, with the sun at the centre and all of the planets including Earth revolving about it. The second model is the correct model, though for many years people assumed incorrectly that the Earth was at the centre of the universe.

What is the main difference between geocentric and helicentric models of the solar system?

Geocentric model that was prevalent in the middle ages said that the Earth was in the center of the solar system (in fact of the universe) and all other planets revolved around it. Modern science says that in the solar system the Sun is at the center and all its planets revolve around it.

Which object orbits earth in both the earth centered and sun centered models?

That would be the moon. We've never thought of it that way ... the only object whose status didn't change between the geocentric and heliocentric model. Thanks for showing it to us.

What scientist first proposed the idea of the geocentric model?

Claudius Ptolemy, an Egyptian astronomer, mathematician, and geographer, proposed the geocentric model around 140 B.C.The geocentric model states that the Earth exists at the center of the universe and everything else revolves around it. This was later shown incorrect by multiple other astronomers, such as Galileo, and proposed the more correct Heliocentric model.

What is a description of the solar system in which all planets revolve arond the earth?

The Geocentric Theory, or The Geocentric Model, proposes that the Earth is the center of the Universe and all other objects orbit around it.

What is the differnts between geocentric model and heliocentric model?

You should read a book and find out, don't always go the easy way out. Timmy Same- Both are models of the solar system and how the sun and planets are arranged. Different- Geocentric- revolves around the earth. Heliocentric- Planets (including Earth) revolve around the sun. your welcome.

What does the geocentric model look like?

It is the theory in which the earth is the center of the universe and that all the planets revolve around it including the sun. this theory was developed by Aristotle.Geocentric theory basically stated that the Earth was at the center of the universe, and that the sun, moon, planets, and other heavenly bodies revolved around it. This theory was believed extensively during the middle ages.

In a geocentric theory which body do the other planets orbit?

The other planets - and all other bodies - orbit the earth.

What is the main different between the geocentric and heliocentric models of planetary motion?

in a heliocentric system earth and the other planets revolving planet's a geocentric system ,earth is at the center of the revolving planets

What did the Copernicus universe suggest?

Copernicus suggested a heliocentric model of the universe. Meaning, the earth was the centre of the universe and other planets had to orbit around the earth. This model of the universe was against Ptolemy's model of a geocentric model; a stationary Earth at the centre of the universe.

What was the purpose of the epicycle in the Ptolemaic model?

Epicycles helped account for the apparent motion of the other planets in the geocentric model.

What was geocentric theory?

What is the difference between geocentric heliocentric and planetary motion?

Geocentric motion of planet is that in which earth is at the centre of the universe and all other planets revolving around it.Heliocentric motion of planets is that in which sun is the of universe and other planets revolving around it.In planetary motion all the planets includes Earth revolving around the Sun in their fixed orbit.

What is the difference between a geocentric snd heliocentric model of the solar system?

Heliocentric was thought to believe that the sun was at the center of the solar system and that the planets revolved around the Sun. Geocentric was thought to believe that the earth was the center of the solar system and that the planets revolved around the earth. We now know that our solar system is centered around the sun and is heliocentric.
