Models are designed to serve particular purposes. In the case of astronomical models, they are designed to explain how things in the sky behave. For this purpose, heliocentric models are superior, because they are a closer description of what actually happens than geocentric models. They aren't ENTIRELY accurate, but close enough.

However, if your purpose is to navigate on the surface of the Earth using a sextant, geocentric models are almost as accurate and make it a WHOLE lot easier to do the math. (I used to be an instructor in the US Air Force's celestial navigation school.)

Which astronomer proposed a universe that combined the heliocentric and geocentric models?

Tycho Brahe proposed a universe where the Earth was at the center (geocentric model) while other planets revolved around the Sun (heliocentric model). His system was known as the Tychonic system, which attempted to reconcile both models.

What is the major difference between the geocentric model in the heliocentric model?

The major difference between the geocentric and heliocentric models lies in the center of the solar system: the geocentric model places the Earth at the center, with the Sun and planets orbiting around it, while the heliocentric model positions the Sun at the center, with the Earth and other planets orbiting around it. The heliocentric model, proposed by Copernicus, is supported by observational evidence and eventually led to a better understanding of planetary motions, while the geocentric model was based on ancient beliefs and lacked empirical support.

How are the heliocentric theory and the geocentric theory different?

Heliocentric = The Sun is at the center of our solar system. Geocentric = The Earth is at the center of our solar system. Insisting the Sun is at the center, which it is, once very much angered the church.

Do the observed phases of Venus support the heliocentric system?

The phases of Venus are well supported by the heliocentric system, but they are also supported very well by the previous geocentric system. All you need for Venus to have phases is that Venus should pass between Earth and Sun. That happens in both the heliocentric system and the geocentric system.
