Answer

A solar system uses the energy that has been stored in batteries on a cloudy day, but it also continues to produce energy during overcast conditions. Even though the sky is covered with clouds, sunlight still passes through. The amount of light that reaches the collector is just reduced. So, if energy demand is not reduced, the system will draw upon what has perviously been stored in the batteries.
