Our Sun is a Main Sequence star, between 4 and 5 billion years old and very stable. About 80% of stars are smaller that the Sun, and a few are much bigger. Most of the stars we can seewithout telescopes are the giants, because they're so much brighter.

Compared to other very luminous stars, the Sun is an average star in almost every way: it is average in size, average in temperature, and average in density.

However, it's only one of a very small percentage of "large" stars in the universe. Scientists estimate that as many as 75% of all stars are red dwarfs, and less than half the size of the Sun.
The sun is considered to be the most powerful star in the solar system.
