How far is the star on near side of Andromeda galaxy?

The distance to the Andromeda Galaxy is estimated at 2.5 million light-years. The distinction between "near side" and "far side" is irrelevant, since the diameter of the Andromeda Galaxy is probably less than the error in the distance estimation.

How will the Andromeda galaxy affect the milky way in the near future?

The Andromeda galaxy is approaching us, and will be quite near in about 3 billion years. It is not yet known whether it will actually collide with our galaxy, or move sideways - the sideways part of the velocity is harder to figure out than the component of movement towards us, or away from us.The Andromeda galaxy is approaching us, and will be quite near in about 3 billion years. What is at the center of the andromeda galaxy?

At the center of the Andromeda Galaxy is a supermassive black hole known as "Andromeda Galaxy's Center" or M31*. This black hole has a mass equivalent to around 140 million suns and plays a crucial role in shaping the dynamics of the galaxy itself.

Why is the Andromeda galaxy visible to us?

For exactly the same reason that an LED, a flashlight, or a burning match is visible to you if it's near enough to you. Because the Andromeda galaxy contains a few light sources ... a few hundred billion stars ... that are bright enough to be seen at the distance of the Andromeda galaxy.

Where in the night sky is the Andromeda galaxy from North America?

The Great Nebula in Andromeda, which is called the "Andromeda galaxy" and is more formally known by its Messier number as "M31 in Andromeda", is between the constellations of Andromeda and Cassiopeia. At this season (January 30, 2011) it is about 60 degrees above the northwestern horizon at sunset. I recommend the open-source planetarium program Stellarium, available from www.stellarium.org, as being the best planetarium software program available. And it's free! The best time to see the Andromeda galaxy, is mid-November. On November 15th, at 9:00 PM, Andromeda galaxy is almost at the zenith (directly above your head). On a very clear, preferably moonless night, look up, and toward the north. Look for a little "wisp" of light. It will be on a straight line from the north horizon to the south horizon, near the zenith, but a bit to the north. It is very rewarding in 10 power binoculars. To see it at other times of the year, you'll need to become familiar with start charts and the night sky in general - what I've given you is the easiest way to see it. Right now, (Feb. 1st) it is near the Northwest horizon at 9:00 PM, and harder to see. Andromeda galaxy is the only thing viewable with the naked eye that is outside of our own Milky Way galaxy. Everything else you see in the night sky with your naked eye is within our own galaxy.

What are the biggest galaxy near your galaxy?

The nearest 'large' galaxy is the Andromeda Galaxy, nearly identical to our own Milky Way Galaxy but slightly larger

Do galaxies shift near or far away from earth?

Most galaxies have a red shift away from us - meaning they are moving away from us. However, the Andromeda galaxy has a blue shift, which means it is moving towards us. In about 2.5 billion years time, the two galaxies will merge.

Are there any probes in the Andromeda Galaxy?

No human probes, no. The Andromeda Galaxy is simply too far away. It is about 2.5 million light years away, meaning that even at the speed of light it would take 2.5 million years to reach it, and no manmade probe can travel anywhere near that fast. Currently the furthest man-made probe is about 16 light ours from Earth, and it took nearly 35 years to get that far. Though technically we have no way of knowing if there is intelligent life somehwere in the Andromeda Galaxy that might be exploring their own solar system with probes.

What is the nearest galexy?

The nearest major galaxy is Andromeda which is only 2.5 million light years away. There are two dwarf galaxies near the Milky Way called the Large Magellanic Cloud and the Small Magellanic Cloud roughly 75,000 light years away.In about 2.5 billion years, Andromeda and the Milky Way will merge.

What is the name of your large galaxy nearest to your milky way?

Andromeda Galaxy is the nearest spiral galaxy to our Milky Way Galaxy. It is the largest galaxy of the Local Group, which also contains the Milky Way, the Triangulum Galaxy, and about 30 other smaller galaxies.

What is the specialty of Andromeda galaxy?

It is a large galaxy, which is relatively near-by. There are galaxies nearer to us, like the two Magellan Clouds; but those are mini-galaxies.
