That depends on your definition of "atmosphere".

  1. the breathable atmosphere is perhaps 3 to 4 miles thick.
  2. the base of the stratosphere is perhaps 6 to 12 miles up.
  3. the base of the ionosphere is perhaps 30 to 50 miles up.
  4. the boundary of the atmosphere with the vacuum of space is perhaps 250 to 350 miles up.
  5. some atmosphere may sometimes be detectable perhaps 1000 miles up, but at this distance the solar wind blows much of it away.
