There are about 6000 stars that can be seen with the naked eye, so in a dark night, you can hope to see 3000 or so, to the faintest (the other 3000 are below the horizon).

If you are in a brightly lit city, the number can be as low as *none*.

There are about 100 billion stars in out galaxy.

There are an estimated 170 billion galaxies in the observable universe; that means around 300 sextillion (short scale) or 3*10^23 stars in the universe.

Thats pretty impressive if you ask me and to know that there are more stars in the sky then sands on earth and I mean even down the finest pieces of sand even makes anyone wonder how many stars are there really in the sky and it would take over 3000 years to count them all one by one!
