Alan Shepard had three daughters named Laura, Julie, and Alice.
he went to many colleges, and pinkerton academy
Before John Glenn, six people went up to space: Yuri Gagarin, Gherman Titov, Alan Shepard, Gus Grissom, Scott Carpenter, and Wally Schirra.
That would be Alan B. Shepard Jr, on May 5, 1961. A very short trip. 15.5 minutes, 116 miles altitude, 303 statute miles, 5134 mph, and splashdown. I was in the first grade and he was was front-page news. Many will mistake John Glenn as the first into space, with his complete orbit of the earth on Feb 20 1962. Looking back on the early development of space propulsion rockets, I realize how brave these guys were. There were so many Titan rocket failures prior to the Mercury-Redstone program.
One. Shepard flew into space twice: Mercury 3, America's first manned space mission, and Apollo 14, the third moon landing. Mercury 3 was a sub-orbital flight lasting 15 minutes. Apollo 14 made one full orbit of the earth before TLI (trans-lunar injection), the refiring of the third stage rocket, that send the CSM (command and service modules) to the moon. TLI occurred halfway through what would have been the second orbit.
