The United States has landed astronauts on the moon a total of six times. The missions were part of the Apollo program and took place between 1969 and 1972.
Apollo 11, 12, 14, 15, 16, and 17 all landed on the moon. Apollo 13 was the almost fatal mission, and the spacecraft didn't make it to the moon, but had to go back to Earth. So, that would be 6 times.
The sun is much larger than the moon. The sun has a diameter about 400 times larger than the moon, but it also appears larger to us on Earth because it is much closer to us than the moon.
