I'm not really sure what you mean, but one example of what you might be talking about are the GPS systems we use everyday. The GPS system reads information from several geosynchronous satellites to give us our exact position on the earth. It's the same method sailors have been using for thousands of years, only they take readings of the stars at night to tell them where they are.

Which is the height of a geostationary satellite from the surface is approximately?

The height of a geostationary satellite from the surface is approximately 35,786 kilometers (22,236 miles).

How do satellites gather data?

Satellites gather data using various instruments and sensors that capture information across different wavelengths of the electromagnetic spectrum. They can use cameras for imaging, radar for surface mapping, and spectrometers for analyzing atmospheric composition. Data is transmitted back to Earth for analysis, often in real-time, enabling applications in weather forecasting, environmental monitoring, and telecommunications. The positioning of satellites in low Earth orbit or geostationary orbit affects the type and resolution of data they can collect.

How does the Geostationary Operational Environment Satellite work?

The Geostationary Operational Environment Satellites (GOES) work by being placed in geostationary orbit about 22,236 miles above Earth. From this position, they can continuously monitor a specific region of the Earth's surface and provide real-time weather data such as cloud cover, temperature, and atmospheric conditions. The satellites use various instruments to gather data and transmit it back to Earth for use in weather forecasting and monitoring.

What are the instrument use by the astronomer to gather information about stars?

How can you tell a satellite is in geostationary orbit?

A satellite is in geostationary orbit when it orbits the Earth at the same speed and direction as the Earth's rotation. This allows the satellite to appear stationary from the surface of the Earth. Measurements of its position and velocity can confirm that it is in geostationary orbit.
