Mass is the amount of matter. Weight had to do with gravity. Weitht is the force of gravity on mass. Some times we use gravity to measure mass such as a spring scale. That does not mean that gravity and mass are the same thing.

Why do objects weigh less on the moon than on earth?

Our weight relies on the gravity pulling us towards the planet. Gravity increases with the mass of the planet, and the moon is much smaller than the Earth. Therefore the moon has less gravity than Earth and as a result people weight less on the moon.

Astronauts weigh less on the moon than on earth because?

while the mass of the astronaut doesn't change the acceleration of gravity on the moon is much less than that on earth. Since weight is a measure of force (N)=m(kg)xa(m/(ss)), a decreased gravity on the moon would mean a decreased weight

Why is that astronauts have less weight on the moon than they have on Earth?

Astronauts weigh less on the Moon than on Earth due to the Moon's weaker gravitational pull. The Moon's gravity is about one-sixth that of Earth's, resulting from its smaller mass and size. This means that objects, including astronauts, experience less gravitational force, making them feel lighter when on the lunar surface. Consequently, while their mass remains unchanged, the reduced gravity affects their weight significantly.

How does the weight of the mass of an object change if it is on the moon?

mass is constant 2kg on earth is 2kg on the moon. Weight depends on gravity. W = mg where g is grav. acceleration. Since gravity is less on the moon, then weight is less on the moon for the same object

What is the weight of star?

Stars do not have weight they have mass. Our Sun is said to be one solar mass or 1.98892×1030 kg. There are stars smaller than our Sun (read dwarfs) which can be down to 0.075 solar masses and stars much much bigger than the Sun (Hypergiants) which can reach 80-150 solar masses.

Is an objects weight is less than its mass?

An object's weight is not the same as its mass. Weight is the result of the gravitational force acting on an object, while mass is the amount of matter in the object. Since weight depends on the gravitational pull and mass does not, the weight of an object can vary depending on where it is located in the universe.

In physics is weight more than mass?

You can't say that one is more or less, since they are completely different things. In the MKS system (meters-killograms-seconds system), near the Earth's surface, the weight is about 10 times the mass. So if the mass were 10 Kg, the force (weight) would be somewhat less than 100 N (closer to 98 N).

Why do you weigh on earth than on the earth?

There is less gravity on the moon to pull you towards its surface than here on earth. Your mass x gravity(acceleration) = your weight. There is less gravity because the moon has less mass than the earth. All objects with mass have some amount of gravity that pulls them toward other objects with mass. The more mass you have in one spot the greater the pull of gravity there.

Why is the moons gravity less than the Earths?

The gravitational force between two things depends on the product of their masses. So if one of the objects stays the same but the mass of the other one changes, the force between them also changes. The moon has less mass than the earth has, so the force between the moon and you is less than the force between the earth and you. Gravity is always a two-way thing, and the forces are always equal in both directions. Your weight on the earth is the same as the earth's weight on you. Is that cool or what !

Would a person weigh less on Pluto or the Moon?

A person would weigh less on the Moon compared to Pluto because the Moon has less mass and weaker gravity than Pluto. The gravitational pull on Pluto is stronger due to its larger mass, causing a person to weigh more on Pluto than on the Moon.

Does one mole of NH3 weigh more than one mole of H2O?

The mass of NH3 mole = its molecular weight = 14 + 3 x 1 = 17 The mass of H2O mole = its molecular weight = 2 x 1 + 16 = 18 This means that one mole of NH3 weigh less than one mole of H2O

Does a pencil weigh less than a kilogram?

Please note that a kilogram is a unit of mass - NOT a unit of weight. And yes, a pencil has a mass that is considerably less than a kilogram. For comparison, a kilogram is the mass of a liter of water.

Name three objects you think have a mass less than one kilogram?

A pencil, a piece of paper, and a scientific calculator all have a mass less than one kilogram.

Why is weight different from mass?

Well mass is different from weight in one major way. Mass is how easily something can lift more than weight being how heavy an object is. For example a balloon has mass, but a person carries weight.

Is penny weight less than a gram?

no it is not less than one gram;) is weighs a bit more

Can one material weigh less than another but have greater mass?

the Weight of an object is the force gravity exerts on it. So if you take a 1kg mass, on earth it pushes down 9.8n. but on say, the moon, you could take a 2kg mass, the amount of force it exerts downwards (the weight) would be less then the 1kg does on earth. So yes, but not if they are in the same place!
