There are many problems such as:

  • It takes a lot of fuel to get to Saturn (millions and millions of gallons)
  • It's very expensive (collecting, liquidizing, and pressuring millions of gallons of hydrogen and oxygen could easily bankrupt an entire nation)
  • It would require a lot of supplies (even if the crew consisted of only two people, it would take a very, very large cargo bay even to hold all the rations in powdered form)
  • It's not possible to keep the engines running throughout the entire mission (years together), as this would mean a consistent thrust for about six years getting to Saturn, and then about six years getting back from Saturn, which would require an immense amount of fuel (fuel as we know it)
  • The ship will be at risk of impact when in the asteroid belt at both times of arrival and departure, and would need a large array of thrusters to avoid collisions with even the smallest of asteroids
  • We cannot land on Saturn as it does not have a solid crust, but a surface of high pressure liquid
  • If we cannot land on Saturn then there is no use of sending humans to Saturn; The purpose of the mission can be served by probes and other robotic instrumentation
  • It would take approximately six years to get there so the astronauts would become very weak (their bones density would decrease immensely, and their muscles would atrophy)
  • If their bones became softer they cannot walk on the surface(even if there was a solid crust) and they would way 95 times more than on Earth, so they would be killed by their own weight even if they could reach the surface despite the heat from the pressure
  • It is extremely cold on Saturn so everything would behave differently. Equipment would be frozen still and space suits won't be flexible which means astronauts won't be able to move, walk, carry out experiments; however, the farther in one goes, the hotter, and after going through the gaseous parts of Saturn, you would eventually reach a high-pressure liquid ocean, which would be extremely hot

The solutions are being found out; however, right now, there is no practical way of sending humans to Saturn.

It is to dense there. You wouldn't land on land becausee all there is, is gas. It is to dense there. You wouldn't land on land becausee all there is, is gas.

One of the biggest problems is how long such a journey would take. Not far behind is how pointless it would be.

For "solutions", look to Science Fiction.
