There was no Apollo 2. Apollo 1 was to have been the first manned Apollo flight, but it caught fire during a routine ground test a month before the scheduled launch. All 3 astronauts inside died. I think you're asking which astronaut orbited the moon while Armstrong and Aldrin walked below. That man would be Michael Collins, who accompanied Armstrong and Aldrin on Apollo 11.
Michael Collins was the astronaut who piloted the command module Columbia while Neil Armstrong and Buzz Aldrin walked on the Moon during the Apollo 11 mission. He orbited the Moon alone, waiting for his crewmates to return to the command module for their journey back to Earth.
Michael Collins, the third astronaut on the Apollo 11 mission, remained aboard the Command Module Columbia while Neil Armstrong and Buzz Aldrin walked on the moon. Collins orbited the moon alone, waiting for his fellow astronauts to return from their historic moonwalk.
Michael Collins orbited the moon alone in the command module Columbia during the historic landing when Neil Armstrong and Buzz Aldrin descended to the moon's surface in the lunar module Eagle. Also note that Apollo 2 is not an actual Apollo mission. Armstrong, Aldrin and Collins flew on Apollo 11 (that is an eleven, not a roman numeral II)

Apollo 2 was an unmanned mission launched in 1966. It was destroyed about six hours into the flight. You are probably confusing it with Apollo 11 (eleven) the first mission to land on the moon. The astronaut in the command vehicle that stayed in orbit around the moon was Michael Collins.

The astronaut was Michael Collins.
Michael Collins stayed in the Apollo 11 Command Module Columbia while Neil Armstrong and Buzz Aldrin made history by walking on the moon. Collins orbited the moon alone, waiting for his crewmates to return from their historic moonwalk.

Michael Collins stayed in the Apollo command module while Neil Armstrong and Buzz Aldrin descended to the lunar surface in the Lunar Module. Collins orbited the Moon alone, acting as the spacecraft pilot and ensuring the safe return of the crew to Earth.
Michael Collins was no "assistant". At the time of Apollo 11 he was a veteran test pilot and an astronaut in charge of one of the most important aspects of the lunar mission: rendezvous with the Lunar Module for the return trip. Today he is an accomplished author, a Brigadier General (Ret) in the USAF, he is the former Assistant Secretary of State for Public Affairs, he was the Director of the National Air and Space Museum and was undersecretary for the Smithsonian Institution. His awards include the NASA Distinguished Service Medal, the Air Force Distinguished Flying Cross, the Air Force Command Pilot Astronaut Wings, the Presidential Medal of Freedom, and the Congressional Gold Medal. Relegating his role in the Apollo 11 mission to that of "assistant" is an insult and a disservice to him and his amazing accomplishments, both before, during, and after the mission.
