No country owns the moon. The United Nations decreed this during the Apollo Moon landings of 1969-72. "No country, corporation, or individual shall own any part of the Moon." In 2020, NASA is planning to return to the moon and establish a permanent moon base. The European Space Agency (ESA), Russians, Chinese, Japanese, and Indians are also planning manned missions to the moon in 2020. (It should be quite a party!) What's the big attraction? Helium 3. It's the most energetic element known - much more energetic than uranium or plutonium. Helium 3 is found in abundance in moon rocks and soil, whereas, it's most rare on Earth. "A small room full of helium 3 could provide all of Earth's energy needs for the next 250 years!" said a NASA scientist. Wow.
