A thermometer measures the temperature of the atmosphere, indicating how warm or cold the air is at a specific location.
Warm air rises because it is less dense than cold air. As it rises, it cools and eventually sinks back down, creating a cycle known as convection. This movement of warm air is important in the Earth's atmosphere for weather patterns and circulation.
Warm air. The greenhouse effect. Weather.
in the lower atmosphere the air gets colder with increasing altitude.
For a storm to develop, air parcels from the ground and the lower atmosphere have to get lifted to the higher atmosphere. The trigger for this to happen, is the instability of the air. warm air from the ground gets lifted while cold air from the higher atmosphere gets descended, thus the barycenter of the atmosphere gets lowered. The energy freed by this is the storm.
Warm front
Warm air is typically found above cool air due to the process of convection, where warm air rises and cool air sinks. This is why the upper atmosphere is warmer than the lower atmosphere in most cases.
Warm air rises in the atmosphere because it is less dense than cold air. As warm air molecules heat up, they spread out and become lighter, causing them to rise above the denser, cooler air. This process is known as convection and is a key factor in the movement of air in the atmosphere.

Air pressure tends to increase as air gets lower in the atmosphere simply because the lower the air is, the more air there is on top of it, and that's what causes air pressure, the weight of the air. And when air is under more pressure, it naturally gets compressed. Air also tends to be warmed by proximity to the ground because it is the ground that is warmed by sunlight. Sunlight does not warm air directly since air is transparent (at least in the visible wavelengths).
Rising warm air is called convection. As warm air rises, it creates convection currents that circulate heat and moisture in the atmosphere.
