He landed the Lunar Lander (Eagle) at the Sea of Tranquility, barely avoiding some large rocks. He and Buzz Aldrin got out and walked around in their spacesuits, picking up rocks, setting up an American flag, and doing walks and jumps for the TV audience watching on Earth. After about 2 and a half hours, they got back in and left, meeting up with Michael Collins in the Command Module for the trip back to Earth.

Being the first man to step onto the Moon, Armstrong thought up something historic to say, but it was slightly garbled by the suit microphone: "That's one small step for (a) man, one giant leap for mankind."
