It depends on your definition of 'die'.

The moon is an inanimate object, so it technically is already 'dead'.

If you mean explode, like how a star would die, shrapnel would pour down to earth and cause millions of deaths and trillions of dollars in damage, not to mention the extinction of hundreds of endangered species that might get hit by the shrapnel, and the shrapnel changing the environment.
