A spectroscope measures the light energy given off by what?

Spectra is the plural of Spectrum. Scope meaning a device to assist seeing. Spectra or spectrum is what we see. There are light waves beyond our sense of seeing. we see light/colors in the visible spectrum. Below that we have Infra Red. Above the visible spectrum we begin with Ultra Violet. These are frequencies of the light. Frequency meaning how fast something is changing. White light is considered to be a combination of all of the colors of the spectrum. When a white light shines upon an object, we see the color or colors that are reflected to our eye. A spectra scope does the same thing, but is normally equiped with measuring tools that telll us the specific wave length or frequency of light within the received spectrum. If a light bulb is turned off and you shine a flashlight on it, you will see the filiment and a spectrascope could tell you all about the light that is being seen. If you turn on the light bulb, it emits light. Thus, a spectrascope can see light reflecting or refracting from something that is illuminated by some other source/s. A spectrascope can see light given off by an object that is not illuminated by another source or sources. Answer: A spectrascope measures the light given off by everything that emits within the sprectrum that the spectrascope is capable of measuring. Hope that helps. Have a wonderful day.
