What is the astinospher?

The asthenosphere is a region of Earth's upper mantle below the lithosphere where rock is soft and capable of flowing slowly. It plays a key role in plate tectonics by allowing plates to move on top of it. This layer is hotter and under higher pressure than the lithosphere above it.
