The climax is when Minli buys a goldfish using one of the two copper coins the family owned. The goldfish man claimed that it will bring good luck. Minli's mom was mad since she believed that it was a waste of money and they have to feed it too when they don't have enough food for themselves. Minli then frees the fish into the Jade River thinking that her mom is right, thankful for its freedom, it counsels Minli to seek the answers to her questions from the Old Man of the Moon. Minli then packs her things and goes on an adventure to find the Old Man of the Moon.
