If indeed it is a star it could be Betelgeuse. If it is a planet then it is Mars.
It will only be in the South East for a certain area on Earth and a certain date and time because the Earth rotates around its own axis and around the Sun.
It is probably Arcturus - a red supergiant in the constellation Bootes.

Fomalhaut has a declination of almost -30° (30° south), so it can be seen - at least in theory - at latitude 60° north, or anywhere south of that.
The south star
Stars are not twinkling really. It is because of the atmosphere of the earth due to which they appear twinkling. However if they are seen from above the atmosphere of earth then they appear stationary.

Afro-Eurasia, Europe especially, has a more jagged coast that goes in and out at large or short distances. This allows for more seas to be formed. This is also somewhat seen in North America, but not seen in South America.
Yes, I have observed Secretary birds in East Africa and seen them eat small lizards, insects, amphibians and mammals. I have also seen the tackle and eat some quite large poisonous snakes.
