Dionysus is the son of Zeus and the mortal woman Semele. Zeus rescued Dionysus when Semele died, and he entrusted his care to the nymphs, who raised him in the mountains. Despite being father and son, their relationship was complex due to Dionysus's dual nature as a god of wine and revelry.
The mortal woman Semele was privileged to see Zeus in his true form, but the sight of his divine glory was so overwhelming that she was consumed by the flames of his power and perished. Zeus saved her unborn child, Dionysus, by sewing him into his thigh until he was ready to be born.

The brith of Dionysus was a tragic one. His mother was the mortal Semele and his father was the god Zeus. Hera found out about yet another affair and took a mortal form and acted as a nurse for Semele. When Semele gossiped that the father was Zeus, Hera - in disguise- questioned her. Semele called Zeus to prove his god-hood, even after Zeus begged her not to. But she asked it, and when he presented him-self in his full glory Semele died. No mortal could look upon an unduised god without dying. Zeus, in a last acted of love saved the baby -Dionysus- from dying aswell and took him out of his mother womb. Zeus sowed the baby to his thigh to allow him to keep growing. finally when Dionysus was ready Zeus cut him from his thigh. He was 'born' on Mount Pramnos in the island of Ikaria.
Semele; Hera had become angry that Zeus had married Seele. So Hera told Semele to ask Zeus to reveal his true divine form. Zeus had sworn by Styx that he grant Semele a single wish, and so he showed his true form. Semele then died by Zeus's divine light.

According to Legend, Dionysos was the son of Zeus and Semele.
In one version, Dionysus was the son of another women (either Demeter or Persephone) by Zeus. This made Hera vengeful and she sent her Titans to rip the baby apart. The heart of the baby Dionysus was rescued and Dionysus was recreated and implanted in the womb of Semele. Hera then tricked Semele into asking Zeus to show his true form to her which killed her. Dionysus was able to save her from the underworld though. In another version, Dionysus was the son of Semele and Zeus. Either way, Hera tried to have him killed.
