The sun's diameter is roughly 82% larger than that of the moon's orbit.

In other words, if the Earth were at the center of the sun ... ignoring for a moment

all the ghastly thermal implications of that fantasy ... the moon would be only about

55% of the way out to the sun's 'surface'.
