Technology has allowed human civilization to create space craft that could potentially travel beyond the limits of our solar system, as demonstrated by the Voyager and Voyager 2. However its mans own limits that keep us close to home. An unmanned craft does not have the limitations of a manned craft such as oxygen supply, power for heat, food storage, but the biggest limitation of manned space travel is simply time. Meaning that even if all other issues were addressed, we're limited by how long space travel currently takes. For example even to get from Earth to Mars would take months with current technology, and even 1 AU would take substantially longer.
Spacecrafts are launched into space using rocket propulsion systems. Rockets generate enough thrust to overcome Earth's gravity and propel the spacecraft into orbit. Once in orbit, spacecrafts can travel further into space with the help of additional propulsion systems like thrusters or ion engines.
Three types of spacecraft include satellites, space probes, and crewed spacecraft such as space shuttles or capsules. Each type serves different purposes, such as exploring distant planets, conducting scientific research in space, or transporting astronauts to and from the International Space Station.
When two spacecraft are joined in space it is called docking.
People send spacecrafts to space to explore what it is like in space and to take pictures to see if there is going to be life on a planet. They also see where things are. Hope that helps!
Because humans have a need to reach space, and there is no other way to reach space. Reaching space has many benefits, including communication, navigation, mapping and exploration. New space crafts are constantly being invented because new technology allows for safer and more efficient space crafts.
