Each of the three Apollo lunar rovers had two 36-volt silver-zinc potassium hydroxide non-rechargeable batteries with a capacity of 121 A·h each (a total of 242 A·h), for a maximum range of 57 miles (92 km). None of them has moved since they were left behind on the moon in 1971 and 1972. Even if fresh batteries were taken to them, it is questionable whether they would still be usable after decades of exposure to the moon's monthly cycle of extreme temperatures and to cosmic rays unshielded by any significant atmosphere.
