As far as we know, Vigor hasn't crashed into any planet. That's because it never existed - the story about it is an urban legend.
In the story, it was intended to go to Venus, but due to a "small" programming error, it missed Venus entirely and "wandered off into space" - AWOL. No one knows where it is now.
In reality, Vigor never existed. The story seems to be a confused version of the fate of the Mars Climate Orbiter, which did indeed crash into Mars due to a programming error.
Elan means energy, style, or flair. It is often used to describe someone's distinctive and stylish manner or a sense of enthusiasm or vigor in their actions.
(of the moon) Have a progressively smaller part of its visible surface illuminated, so that it appears to decrease in size.(esp. of a condition or feeling) Decrease in vigor, power, or extent; become weaker: "confidence waned".
Waning is an English word that's not used much any more. It means shrinking, shriveling, decreasing, declining, diminishing, dwindling. It's still used to decribe the moon, during the half of each cycle ... roughly two weeks ... when it's in the sky primarily at night, and its visible portion becomes smaller each night.
The Great Kersten Blunder happened in the 80's. A Vigor probe missed Venus and went out into space after a computer programming error by a scientist named Kersten.
