Basically, we don't know, and probably never will. Many assumptions and guesses can be made about what exists outside the universe, but unless someone goes there to find out (and this is almost certain not to happen within any reasonable amount of time) we won't ever know.

Scientifically speaking, there is nothing beyond the edge of the universe as the universe is considered to be infinite or neverending.

Scientists generally agree that the universe has expanded for about 13.7 billion years or since the big bang and is about 45 billion light years accross. If one accepts that theory then after 45 billion light years and since the universe is still expanding, there is an edge. What lies beyond is still a hot debate. Some believe in alternate universe theories while other take a mirror effect approach in which if you traveled hypothetically to the edge you would return direct opposite 45 billion light years directly behind the 'edge' you just left

Infinite regress. In other words it is proven so far to be never ending. The most likely possibility is that there is just space and multiple universes however this topic is debatable. People usually say nothing but nothing is always something.
