Lunar eclipses occur more frequently than Solar eclipses. About 70 eclipses take place in regular cycles lasting 18 years and 8 or 9 days; usually 41 of these eclipses are solar and 29 are lunar.
A solar eclipse occurs when the moon passes between Earth and the sun, blocking the sun's light and casting a shadow on Earth's surface. Solar eclipses happen periodically, with the frequency depending on the type of eclipse (partial, annular, total) and the location on Earth from which it is visible.
A partial lunar eclipse is the most common type of eclipse seen as it occurs more frequently than total lunar eclipses. During a partial lunar eclipse, only a portion of the Moon passes through Earth's umbral shadow, creating a shaded effect.
This is when a Solar Eclipse occurs, the total eclipse happens when the moon's apparent size is bigger than the sun's and the moon blocks out nearly all of the sun's light - thus making stars appear.
A lunar eclipse occurs when the Earth passes between the Sun and the Moon, casting a shadow on the Moon. This alignment causes the Moon to appear dimmer as it passes into the Earth's shadow.
If the Earth is positioned between the Sun and the Moon, a lunar eclipse occurs.During a total lunar eclipse, the Earth blocks all of the Sun's light that would usually reflect off the Moon.
Solar Eclipse
The solar eclipse can occur only at New Moon, but it has no connection with the moon's distance from earth.
