What was Eris' power?

Eris is the Greek Goddess of Spite (in Gr. Έρις ). She is the elder daughter of dark Night, Nyx (in Gr. Νύχτα). Her brother is Ares, God of War. She is one of the most hated Goddesses by the Olympian deities. The Trojan War was her doing. Eris was not invited to the wedding of Thetis to Peleus, a mortal. Full of anger and spite, Eris tossed a golden apple into the party. The apple was inscribed; it said: "To the Fairest." This led to a lot of confusion as the guests tried to give the object to the desired owner. They narrowed it down to three Goddesses: Athene, Hera, and Aphrodite. Each Goddess believed that the apple was meant for herself. Wanting nothing to do with it, Zeus put Paris (a mortal and prince of Troy) in charge of deciding which Goddess was the true owner of the apple. Each of the three deities promised Paris everything in their power, but finally he made his choice. He'd decided that the apple was meant to be owned by Aphrodite. And, as promised, she picked out the loveliest woman on Earth and made her fall in love with Paris. That woman was Helen, and that was the start of the Trojan War and Eris' part in it.

She was the goddess of chaos, upheaval, and change.

The most famous story still circulating about this wily trouble-maker is that of the Golden Apple.

There was to be a banquet on Mount Olympus and because Eris was so wily and unpredictable, she was not invited. (This is the Original Snub.)

Well--this angered her greatly and so, to get back at the other dieties, she crafted a beautiful golden apple and on it inscribed the word, "Kallisti," which means, "To the fairest one."

On the night of the banquet, she rolled the apple into the hall and it stopped at the feet of three goddesses: Hera, Athena, and Aphrodite. Each of them being rather arrogant, each claimed that it belonged to her. A huge quarrel broke out--utter chaos, you might say. ;)

Finally, Zeus declared that a third party, a mortal, must be appointed to decide who the trinket actually belonged to. They chose Paris.

The night before he was to choose the rightful owner, each goddess approached him in secret and bribed him. Hera offered him infinite knowledge. Athena offered him great success and victory in all he did. Aphrodite offered him the most beautiful woman in the world at that time: Helen of Troy.

Being a healthy (and rather silly) young man, Paris agreed to Aphrodite's bribe.

So Aphrodite got the apple and Paris got screwed. Thus--the Trojan War.
