I can definitely tell you Gagarin visited New Delhi and it was either in 1961 (year of flight) or 1962 september/october. (I left New Delhi in Jan. 1963). Most unforgettable is the fact that I actually saw him at close quarters and regret I missed a handshake. Our school located on Curzon Road, New Delhi was adjacent to the Soviet Embassy. One afternoon we saw a few cars arriving at the embassy gate. Many schoolmates recognised him and rushed towards the gate and Gagarin even got out and gave hand shakes to a few students but I was not among the lucky ones. The incident is still fresh in my mind.
