It's not necessarily `weaker' but the tuner section is less sensitive that automotive receivers. This is mainly due to the fact that a home receiver is set up so that it can have an external antenna attached to it, where an automotive receiver needs to be able to pick up signals in hilly terrain, tunnels, etc., so automotive deigners made their tuners more sensitive for better reception.
If memory serves me correctly, LG is a Korean brand formerly known as Goldstar. They also purchased the Zenith brand, so it's possible since Zenith had its plants in Mexico that some of their TV's are made there as well.
