When will people live on Mars?

currently we do have the technology to go there it would take roughly 6 months to get there and 6 months to get back. the main issue really is money with alot of the major space exploration nations suffering some what of an economic down turn there is less motivation to go there. there has been talks of sending a manned mission to mars that is one way, this being that the person going would not come back. this is because it would be far cheaper, but there is obviously a massive ethical issue with this idea. in reality we are probably looking at atleast 15-20yrs before a real# manned flight to mars will happen.

According to various national space agencies, NASA plans a manned mission around 2035, and other agencies such as China plan for 2040-2050. These would just be short stay missions, NASA doesn't plan to establish an outpost until 2060.

In terms of something more ambitious, the company Mars One (see related link) plans to send 4 people on a one-way mission to live on Mars in 2023. They should begin selecting astronauts next year.

this question cannot be answered because the answer depends on both technology (which can be predicted to a degree) and politics (which cannot be predicted). A voyage to Mars could be mounted in 20 years, or 100 years, or 500 years or never.
