There is a huge quantity of hydrogen in the sun's core. These atoms fuse into a helium atom. This energy gets radiated outwards from the core and moves across to the solar system. The sun thus produces energy by the nuclear fusion of hydrogen in its core into helium.

Fusion of hydrogen atoms into helium atoms.
The sun gets its energy from nuclear fusion that takes place in its core. Hydrogen atoms are combined and energy is created from this process. Some people use this to power their house up.

The sun has a nuclear reaction happening within it using hydrogen, The reaction is called fusion (not the same as fission that occurs in nuclear power plants). It works by converting the element hydrogen into the element helium and this generates a lot of energy as well. Our sun has about 75% hydrogen and 25% helium at the moment, the hydrogen will be enough to fuel it for several billions of years.

Nuclear fusion. The Sun does not really get any energy in the sense that you mean, though. The sun is really just a very long reaction. Eventually it will run out of energy and explode, and if humans haven't at least colonized another solar system by that time we will go extinct, along with every other resident of Earth.

The gases around and inside of it.

Energy is produced on the sun by a process called Nuclear fusion. In this process, four nuclei of hydrogen combine to form one nucleus of helium. A lot of energy is released in the process. Since there is abundance of both gases on the sun, its a continuous source of energy.

The sun's gravity, pulling its mass inward, creates lots of pressure which forces hydrogen atoms to fuse in nuclear reactions. The resulting energy produces light (infrared, UV, visible lights) and other rays.

Basically the sun is burning itself up, and it only has the energy that's in the materials that make up the sun.

The sun generates its fuel from nuclear fusion in the core. Like other stars, the sun has a core in which hydrogen nuclei combine in nuclear fusion to produce helium.
