Orbital mechanics is a very difficult and complex science, because we do not have a generalized way to compute the gravitational attractions between a large number of objects. But in any system with two large masses, such as the Earth and the Moon, or between the Sun and the Earth, there are five relatively stable points. These are called Lagrange Points.

Lagrange points maintain their positions in respect to two large masses throughout the entire orbital period.

The L1 point is between the Earth and the Sun where the pull of gravity from each body is cancelled out. Because of the higher gravity from the Sun, the L1 point is closer to the Earth than the Sun.

The first Lagrange Point, L1, is directly between the two masses, but closer to the smaller mass, where the pull of gravity from each body is more-or-less cancelled out. In the Earth-Moon system, the L1 point is about 38,000 miles from the Moon. The L2 point is along the line from the Earth to the Moon, about 38000 miles past the Moon.

The L3 point is in the Moon's orbit, directly opposite the Earth from the Moon.

The L4 and L5 points lie in the Moon's orbit, 60 degrees ahead of and 60 degrees behind the Moon in its orbit. Many science fiction stories depict space stations in the L5 point, because this would be a stable location in the system; things would tend to "fall into" the L4 or L5 points and tend to remain there.

What is the distance of the earth-moon lagrange pointfrom the earth?

*** original answer *** i dont have a clue what you are talking about but the earth is far bigger than the moon ******************* *** correct answer *** There are actually 5 Lagrange points in any two body system. I assume you're referring to the L1 point. This is the point along the line between the Earth and Moon where the gravitational forces from each body equal each other. That point is roughly 345,000 km from the center of the Earth (the Earth's radius is ~6378 km). The total distance from the Earth to the Moon is about 384,000 km. *******************

If an object place halfway between moon and earth what happen?

The object would experience a balance of gravitational forces between the Earth and the Moon, known as a neutral point. This point is called the L1 Lagrange point, where the gravitational forces from both bodies cancel each other out, allowing an object to remain relatively stable in this position.

Where does the Moon's pull equal the earth's?

The Moon's gravitational pull equals the Earth's gravitational pull at a specific point known as the L1 Lagrange point, which is located between the Earth and the Moon. At this point, the gravitational forces from both bodies balance each other out, allowing objects to maintain a stable position relative to the Earth and Moon.

Where earth gravitationl force become zero?

Because there is no range limit on the gravitational force, the gravitational force of the earth is only zero in the exact centre of the earth, where it cancels itself out. Realistically, the force is so small outside the immediate vicinity of earth, that it may as well be zero.

What is sub satellite point?

A subsatellite point is the point on the Earth's surface directly below a satellite in orbit. This point moves as the satellite orbits the Earth. The subsatellite point is also called the nadir point.

Where is the SOHO sun telescope located?

SOHO (Solar and Heliospheric Observatory) was launched into the Earth/Sun L1 Lagrangian point in 1995. This point balances the gravity from the Sun and Earth and allows for very little energy to remain in a stable orbit. There are 5 Lagrangian points for SOHO but L1 is the best positioned for Earth communications.

What is the significance of the L4 Lagrangian point in celestial mechanics and space exploration?

The L4 Lagrangian point is significant in celestial mechanics and space exploration because it is a stable point in space where the gravitational forces of two large bodies, such as the Earth and the Moon, balance out. This allows spacecraft to orbit in a fixed position relative to both bodies, making it an ideal location for space missions and satellite deployment.

What is the Lagrangian formulation for a rotating pendulum?

The Lagrangian formulation for a rotating pendulum involves using the Lagrangian function to describe the system's motion. This function takes into account the kinetic and potential energy of the pendulum as it rotates, allowing for the equations of motion to be derived using the principle of least action.

What does the Lagangrian Function do and mean?

Lagrangian (L) summarizes the dynamics of the system.Generally, in classical physics, the Lagrangian is defined as follows:L=T-Vwhere T is kinetic energy of the system and V is its potential energy. If the Lagrangian of a system is has been defined, then the equations of motion of the system may also be obtained.

What is the Lagrangian for a particle moving on a sphere?

The Lagrangian for a particle moving on a sphere is the kinetic energy minus the potential energy of the particle. It takes into account the particle's position and velocity on the sphere.

What are the Lagrangian constraints used for in optimization problems?

Lagrangian constraints are used in optimization problems to incorporate constraints into the objective function, allowing for the optimization of a function subject to certain conditions.

Where can you put the next generation space telescope?

The next generation telescope will have the two or twin telescopes. One will have to be stationed at the Lagrangian point 4 and the other at the Lagrangian point 5. So together they will act like the pair of your eyes. So you can penetrate in the space out of your universe also. Then you can locate the source of cosmic microwave back ground also, most probably. The cosmic dust coming in the way of one telescope and not in the way of other can be easily deleted by simple computer. By this mechanism you can increase the size of the lens of the telescope to hundreds of thousands of kilo meters. The processing unit can be kept at Lagrangian point one. This telescope should cost less than or about the same as the James Web telescope.

What are some examples that illustrate the application of Lagrangian dynamics in physics?

Some examples of the application of Lagrangian dynamics in physics include the study of celestial mechanics, the analysis of rigid body motion, and the understanding of fluid dynamics. The Lagrangian approach provides a powerful and elegant framework for describing the motion of complex systems in physics.

What is the advantages of lagrangian over newtonian?

In lagrangian we use scalar quantity which is much easier to solve then vector quantites used in newtonian.also lagrangian is invariant under gauge transformation and the same not hold good for newtonian.
