Low earth orbit (LEO) satellites are defined as any artificial object between 160 km and 2000 km altitude. Any satellite from 160 km to 690km are in the Thermosphere.

Any satellite in the region between 690km to 10,000 kmaltitude are in the Exosphere.

10,000 km is considered the very top of the atmosphere. Any satellites above this altitude is not considered in the atmosphere. Geostationary satellites for example are at an altitude of 35,786 km.
