First of all, the last Space Shuttle Mission flew in 2011, and there won't be any more. The only people in space for the forseeable future will be the crew of the International Space Station. They can watch pre-recorded audio/visual material, such as DVDs, VHS and Beta tapes, and film-strips, but they can't receive real-time TV broadcasts from stations on the Earth's ground.

In 1981, MTV started. Also in 1981, Prince Charles married Diana in a world viewed wedding. I don't know if MTV would be considered an historical televised event, but on Jan 28, 1986 the space shuttle Challenger exploded shortly after takeoff, killing all crew members. The event was televised.
The Challenger space shuttle no longer exists. It was destroyed shortly after take-off on 28th January 1986. The explosion was widely publicised, as it was being shown live on TV at the time. The cause of the accident was attributed to 'O-ring failure' on the right solid rocket booster.
