I can't speak for the classic series, but in New Who, the Master is shot by Lucy Saxon (his wife) and refuses to regenerate in Last of the Time Lords. However, at the very end of the episode, a woman is seen picking up his signet ring from the ashes of his funeral pyre.
In End of Time, the Master is resurrected. He attacks the Time Lord President at the end of the episode and disappears with the rest of the Time Lords.
John Simm played the role of the Master on Doctor Who, appearing in episodes alongside David Tennant and Matt Smith as the Doctor.
Anthony Ainley, he played The Master from 1981-1989.
There is always a possibility for the Master to return in Doctor Who, as the character is known for their ability to cheat death and make unexpected comebacks. Fans will have to wait and see if the Master will make an appearance in future episodes.
No, back on Gallifrey they were very good friends. They presumingly became enemies because the Master went mad because of the drums and the Doctor couldn't handle it so he left. The Master probably began to hate him for leaving so they became enemies. For years they had many confrontations. Most of the time the Master tried to take over the Earth, or other planets. Later in "Utopia" the Doctor said he was so sorry, that was probably because he left the Master to the mercy of madness and felt guilty about leaving his best friend to that treatment.
The first Doctor Who episode in the new series to feature The Master is "Utopia." It is the eleventh episode of the third series of the revived show and marks the return of The Master as a major character.
