Russian Yuri Alekseyevich Gagarin was the first man to orbit the Earth. Born on 9 March 1934 in Klushino near Gzhatsk, in 1960 he was selected for the Soviet space program, where he was subjected to a punishing series of experiments designed to test his physical and psychological endurance, as well as training relating to the upcoming flight. He excelled in all areas, and his height of only 157cm made him an ideal choice as the first to launch into space.
Gagarin was launched into space in Vostok 3KA-2, or Vostok 1, on 12 April 1961, becoming the first man in space and the first to orbit the Earth. Soviet authorities did not expect him to survive the descent back through Earth's atmosphere, so in-flight, he was promoted from Senior Lieutenant to Major. Gagarin did survive, and he became an instant, worldwide celebrity, touring widely to promote the Soviet achievement.
Yuri Gagarin was a cosmonaut for the Soviet Union. On April 12, 1961, he became the first human being to travel into space. His spacecraft was called "Vostok I" and it completed a single orbit of the earth in 1 hour and 48 minutes.
Copernicus was one of, if not the, first 'modern' person to discover that the Earth did, in fact, revolve around the Sun. He was treated very poorly for this belief, but is now often given the credit for the discovery.
Long before his birth though, were the ancient peoples like the Egyptians, Mayans, Sumerians, Aztecs, etc. who I believe were all very aware of the true nature of the solar system.
We are all riding the Earth in its perennial orbit around the Sun.
So far, no manned space craft has left the Earth's orbit, except for a few that have made it to the Moon - which itself is orbiting the Earth. No one has every gone into solar orbit independently of the Earth.
Nicolaus Copernicus was the first to PROVE that the Earth was not the center of the universe, BUT, Aristarchus was the first to actually say that the Earth revolved around the Sun.

That was the Soviet cosmonaut, Yuri Gagarin.
Every human being has orbited the Sun, once each year, every year of our lives. Other than riding around on the Earth, no human beings have orbited the Sun.

The moon does orbit the Sun. Locked in orbit around the Earth, as the Earth orbits the Sun, the moon orbits the Sun.
The earth moves around the sun in a elliptical orbit.
Earths orbit around the sun is not unusual.
Comets orbit the Sun.

We orbit around the sun due to its gravitational pull.

The orbit the Sun because they are attracted by the Sun.
the sun does not move, the planets orbit around the sun idiot.
well first look on google! (:

All planets in our solar system orbit around the Sun.
Planets orbit the sun. Stars do not.
The sun does not orbit itself!
