There are many substances which are hazardous if they get into your body. Some are solids, some are liquids and some are gases. Basically, it is all the same - the substance has some damaging effect on the body - it might render you unconscious or stop your heart or damage your organs or suffocate you, etc. A poisonous gas enters the bloodstream through the lungs when inhaled.
