Most of Jupiter is hydrogen and helium, but the top of its clouds are composed of ammonia crystals, with trace amounts of water ice and droplets, and possibly ammonium hydrosulfide. It's these clouds that give Jupiter is various colors.

Darker compounds are brought up from deeper inside Jupiter, and then they change color when exposed to sunlight. Scientists think these substances are phosphorus, sulfur and hydrocarbons.
