Because we are not able to travel that sort of distance in a lifetime. The nearest solar system is Alpha Centauri and about 4.3 light years away. That means you would have to travel at the speed of light for 4years and 4months to get there from earth to alpha centaury. The speed of light is 299792.458 Kilometres per second we just cant make anything go that fast yet And that would have to include lost time for acceleration and deceleration and stoping when we got there.

People can't travel to a different galaxy because they are millions of light-years away and we have no technology that is even close to being able to move people over those distances. Good question. People could travel to different galaxies if they could travel at the speed of light. Galaxies are millions or billions of light years away, and it would take you over 500 years to get to the next galaxy by rockets. Therefore, people don't even try to go to the next galaxy because they would die less than half way of either starvation...... for no food can last that long in the rocket..... or old age........ or lack of oxygen, because there isn't enough supply of it in the rocket. So there you go.

Well, frankly, nobody really wants to pay for everything. And why would you want to risk dying? There is a very high chance that you will not survive going to anywhere in outer space except for the moon. I'm not saying that there isn't a high chance that you will die going to the moon, but there is more research that has been done with going to the moon because there have been people who have gone to the moon. It would be very cool to go to another planet, but it takes way to much effort, so I'm not doing it.

You can't go to another planet because none of the other planets near us are 'habitable.' 'Habitable' means life can exist there. If you went to another planet orbiting around the sun, you would get out of the spaceship and you would die. Some of the planets would destroy your spaceship before you could even land, like Jupiter or Saturn! If you went to another rocky planet, like Mars, Venus or Mercury, you would die within seconds of getting out of your spaceship.

Other stars, far away, have planets orbiting them that we think might be similar to Earth, that would be 'habitable.' If we went in a spaceship to these planets, we would die in the spaceship before we even got there! We would die of old age, because other stars are so far away from us that we don't even use words like 'miles' or 'kilometers' to describe how distant they are. We use the expression 'light years' to say how far away these stars are.

A 'light year' is how far light travels in a year. Light is pretty fast; in fact, it's so fast that it's almost ridiculous. It travels 186,000 miles in a second! There are 31 million seconds in a year, so that's a lot of miles. That's 5,865,696,000,000 miles in one 'light year!' The very nearest star is 4 light years away, so that's 23,462,780,000,000 miles, or 23 trillion, 462 billion miles! That's pretty far, so basically we can't go there. The nearest star probably doesn't even have a planet like Earth orbiting around it anyway, so we would probably have to fly even farther out into space; perhaps even 500-1000 light years or more before we found another planet that wouldn't kill us if we got out of our spaceship. You can't even imagine how far away that is, so don't even try because it's impossible!

This is why you can't go to another planet.

That is because we have't been able to get the advanced technology needed for that. Right now, it would take WAY too long to vist another solar system. We would be dead before we reached there. That would be a waste of time AND money.

We don't have a powerful enough rocket, it would take to long, it would cost too much, robotic probes do the job better anyway... the list is endless.
