Because the light emitted by the external parrt of the sun is strong enough to mask anything behind it.
The sun is an extremely massive and dense object, and it is not transparent or translucent.
People cannot see deeper into the sun than the photosphere because the gas lower than the photosphere is so dense that it isn't transparent. It gets denser the farther down one goes.
The photosphere is the layer in the sun's atmosphere that is dense enough to emit plenty of light but not so dense that the light can't escape. Below the photosphere, the gas is denser and hotter therefore radiates plenty of light, but that light cannot escape from the sun because it is blocked by the outer layers of gas. so you cannot detect light from these deeper layers.Sources: Book The Solar System by Seeds/Backman (7th Edition) P.143
The photosphere is the visible "surface" of a star such as the sun from which the light we see emanates.

The corona is much hotter than the photosphere, yet we have to wait for a total solar eclipse to see the corona. Why is that?
Sunspots. See related question.

The part of the sun that is going to emit the most visible light is going to be the Photosphere
