Everything to do with sending men to the moon has to do with money.
The US government did not see the value of continued visits tot he Moon and cut off that funding. This was against the advice of NASA and scientists
Since then the space funding NASA has been able to get for manned trips has been directed to the various space stations and launch vehicals like the SPace SHuttle.
