Why did they invent flashlights?

The flashlight was the next increment in portable lighting equipment after the candle and oil/kerosene lantern. Instead of using a liquid that can spill, catch fire, and spread to cause damage and injury, it used a portable electrical source to power an incandescent lamp. In mining it replaced the flame lantern which can ignite flammable gasses that may be present in the air causing explosions and death.

The flashlight was invented because once every 12 hours or so it gets dark for 12 hours or so. With fire being one of mans greatest creations it was sufficient, but not portable. Man is afraid of the dark, so man invents candle. Candle burn man's hair and beard so man get angry. When man angry, man invented battery and light bulb.

So you can see stuff in the dark. also could use a warning light SOS, strobe to blind a man in seconds.
