Because some sources claims that USA never landed on the moon. It is generally accepted that these claims does not withstand scientific scrunity.
Lunar pictures taken with the Hassleblad camera on each astronaut all had some curvature of field, coma, and other problems associated with wide-angle "fast" lenses of this type.
Conspiracy theorists used these to "prove" that the landing sights were actualty stage props set up out in a hanger in the desert. They also point to the American flag "waving in the wind" on this airless surface. Thus far, I have been able to unconvince everyone I have met about this. The flag had a spring on it to make it look as if it were standing out. Otherwise, a red, white, and blue rag would have been hanging on the poles. I was 1/500,000th of the total team that sent men to the moon with Apollo, so people seek me out. ;-) I was a process control programmer for launch operations in Firing Room A (often called Firing Room 1). Since I was in launch control, not flight control, I had the time to go to an observatory and keep track of the S-IV B stage for days after the launch, and saw where the radio-telescopes were pointing while we were in contact with the astronauts on the moon. They were pointing at the moon. Later, I was part of a team that succesfully hit Armtrong's cubical prism array with a laser.
This madness lost a lot of momentum when a Japenese satellite orbiting the moon took pictures of the Apollo landing sites. The USA now has an even better camera that just arrived in lunar orbit, and it will take much higher-resolution images of the landing sites.
Had we faked it, the Russians would have been all over that! Believe it!
It's clear that 500,000 people can't keep a secret. The whole hoax idea started from some people who did not know enough about science to understand what the photos were showing, and so assumed the photos were fake! But if you go to badastronomy.com or clavius.org these simple mistakes are explained in such a way that the "hoax" idea no longer makes any sense... not that it ever really did!

Yes, people did land on the moon. The Apollo missions, led by NASA, successfully landed astronauts on the moon between 1969 and 1972. There is clear evidence, including rocks brought back from the moon and data from various experiments, to support these historic moon landings.
