Because you are not in the center of the earth. If you were there you would probably be asking why the Earths gravity seem to be directed towards the crust...in all directions I might add. Hmm :-)

Each atom that makes up the Earth will pull us, slightly of course, towards it. The force that we feel towards the center of the Earth is the vector sum of all these tiny forces. Some atoms will pull us more towards the East, but to compensate, others will pull us more towards the west, for example. The pull of most atoms will have a downward component; there are hardly any atoms (as components of Earth) above us, to compensate for that.

Well, earth certainly is of primary importance to us humans, but I doubt many scientists, especially astronomers, would say that it is at the center.

This delves into a divide between some religious beliefs and some beliefs called scientific. I know which side of this argument I believe in, and it is EXTREMELY unlikely anyone could convince me to switch to believing that the earth is at the center of the universe. Likewise, I am not going to attempt to persuade someone who believes earth IS at the center of the universe that it isn't...

It does not necessarily flow toward the sun. Heat from inside Earth flows outward in all directions because Earth's surroundings are colder than Earth's interior. The sun has nothing to do with it.

There is a force called gravitation, which consists in any mass attracting any other mass. In this case, there is an attraction between Earth, and any object near Earth.

All objects on earth are pulled towards the center of the earth by gravity. The objects are pulled to the core(center of earth), but are not pulled through because of the normal force.

What is gravity's effect on motion?

Gravity pulls objects together and towards the center of the earth. The force of gravity depends on the mass of the objects and the distance between them. Gravity will speed up objects falling towards the earth and slow down rising objects.

How does gravity keep us tied to the earth?

Large objects in space distort the fabric of space time to a higher degree, causing nearby objects to be pulled towards them.
