For the sun to nova its mass would need to exceed the Chandra limit, 1.4 solar masses. Our sun is therefore obviously too small. For a supernova the sun would have to be even heavier yet.

Our sun will expand into a red giant, beginning roughly four billion years from now. It will not, however, explode. Not even if we dropped the planets into it.

When is the north star going to explode?

Please note that Polaris is a multiple star. The brightest component, Polaris A, is a supergiant, so it may not live much longer... at least in astronomical terms. Like any supergiant, it will probably run out of fuel some time within the next few million years. After that, it will explode as a supernova.

What happens when a high mass star exhausts its fuel?

It will probably explode as a supernova, leaving either a neutron star or black hole.

What is the space in space called after a star explode?

well it depends on the star. not all stars explode. small to medium sized stars just go into a planetary nebula after they swell up to a red giant then the bigger stars do explode, they have a super nova after the swell up into a super giant. but dont worry i star will not explode... its a really small star. --- nichole brooks :)

what causes a star to explode as a supernova?

Either somebody shoots at the star. Or kills the star turning it into a supernova.

Will the sun implode or explode?

Yes, it is a young star and will explode in 2 billion years at the very least.

How many times bigger is the star betelgeuse than the sun?

Its diameter is about 6 astronomical units, or 500 million miles, that is about 600 times the Sun's diameter. It is big and unstable, it is only 10 million years old and will probably explode as a supernova in the next million years.
