Saint James the Apostle (James the Greater) is the Patron Saint of Spain and of Spanish conquistadors. His name usually translates into Spanish as "Santiago" (hence the name of the Chilean capital, Santiago de Nuevo Extremuda de Chile) or sometimes "San Diego." San Diego, California, however, takes its name from the medieval Saint Didactus of Alcalá the Incorruptible. According to Wikipedia, his patronage extends to veterinarians, equestrians, furriers, tanners, and pharmacists. He also serves a patron saint of these places: Acoma Pueblo, Galicia, Guatemala, Nicaragua, Spain, Santiago de Querétaro, and Sahuayo. Despite his early martyrdom (Acts 12:2, circa AD 44), Spanish tradition holds that Saint James actually conducted a very early mission across the Mediterranean to Spain. Legend holds that he appeared miraculously during the reconquista of Spain from the Islamic caliphate as Santiago Matamoros (Saint James the Moor-slayer).
Saint James the Less (James the Just), a "brother of Jesus" (more accurately an adopted or step-brother considering that God the Father begat Jesus through His mother, the Blessed Virgin Mary), also ranks among the twelve Apostles.
As per the Patron Saint Index, there is no patron saint of generosity.
