I've seen a few answers that state 'hold down the play button'. Although that eventually worked for me, it took about five or more minutes which is unsatisfactory. I even tried using the off/on button and it would not work, it should be as easy to turn on as it is to turn off, not the case with the Ematic MP3 player.
